Jae Hyun Park

Hello! Welcome to my website.  

My name is Jae, and I am an Assistant Professor at the Geppert School of International Studies at Sogang University. I received my PhD in Political Science at the University of Toronto, and I was a Graduate Associate at the Postcor Lab. My major research project examines the ongoing civil war in Myanmar to understand why some rebel groups establish large businesses - such as hydroelectric plants and large group of companies -  while continuing to fight the state during civil wars. I am also interested in the political legacies of civil war violence in post-war societies, political economy of civil war, and mixed-methods approach to research. 

My research has been supported by the Social Sciences and the Humanities Research Council of Canada and the MINDS Scholarship Initiative by the Department of National Defence of Canada (2022-2023). It is also supported by the Ontario Graduate Scholarship (2024-2025), and by the Trudeau Centre for Peace, Conflict and Justice (2024-2025).
